משבר הקורונה הוכיח יותר מכל דבר אחר שחינוך הוא מנוע צמיחה מרכזי במשק הישראלי, חינוך שווה פריון, חינוך שווה חוסן לאומי. לא פחות.
חינוך הוא העסק של כולנו, ואם לא הבנו זאת קודם במשבר הקורונה הפכנו כולנו שותפים במעשה החינוכי. למרות זאת תיק החינוך עדיין נמצא נמוך בסולם העדיפויות הפוליטי. הכיצד ?
במרץ 2020, נסגרו בתי הספר, בצל משבר הקורונה. עד לפני מספר ימים היינו כולנו תחת סגר. אנחנו נמצאים בסופה של שנת הלימודים הנוכחית כשהמערכת עדיין מלקקת את פצעיה והבילבול גדול שלא לדבר על שנת הלימודים הבאה שבפתח וההיערכות אליה טרם החלה.
מנהיגי החינוך בשטח שינסו מותניים, לקחו אחריות ועשו כמיטב יכולתם להוביל מהלך של למידה מרחוק ושימור של מה שניתן משנת הלימודים הנוכחית. תוך תקופה קצרה קפצה מערכת החינוך שנות דור קדימה.
הדירקטיבה הנוכחית של משרד החינוך מנסה לייצר שיגרה חדשה גם אם כרגע מבולבלת ומבלבלת. נוצרה הזדמנות ענקית לשינוי וצמיחה.
גם אם ברור לכולם שהנורמלי החדש יהיה אחרת, לצד ההזדמנות יש סכנה. למערכות יש רצון, בדומה ל"נחום תקום" לחזור ולשמר את מה שהיה. הצונמי שעבר על כולנו סביר שלא יאפשר זאת וטוב שכך. מה שברור הוא שנוצרה לראשונה מזה שנים הזדמנות אמיתית לשינוי מערכת החינוך. דרוש/ה שר/ת חינוך אמיץ שיחבק את השינוי שנוצר ויקח אותו צעד אחד קדימה, הזדמנות שכל מי שרואה עצמו כמיועד לשר/ה צריך היה לחטוף בשתי ידיים.
למצער לא למדנו כלום. במקום שבכירי המפלגות ילחמו על תיק החינוך, אנו מוצאים את עצמנו פעם אחר פעם, בכל הקמת ממשלה עם שר שמגיע למשרד כברירת מחדל ולא מתוך בחירה. בעוד המועמדים נלחמים על 35 תיקים אחרים, אף אחד לא נלחם בפומבי על התיק הכי חשוב ועתיר התקציבים. תיק החינוך שמשפיע יותר מכל על העתיד שלנו ועל היותינו חברה דמוקרטית. במקום שיקחו את ההזדמנות ההיסטורית שנוצרה, יפשילו שרוולים ויובילו את המערכת שנוגעת לכל אחד מאזרחי ישראל, צעירים ומבוגרים כאחד, למסלול של צמיחה ותקווה הם מעדיפים להתהדר בנוצות אחרות.
מתי יפנימו נבחרינו שהחינוך והלמידה הם הבסיס לכל, לאתוס המשותף, לטיוב ההון האנושי, להצמחת התעשייה העתידית וליכולת שלנו לשמר את מעמדנו כסטארט אפ ניישן. החינוך הוא כרטיס הכניסה לצבא ולתעסוקה, התשתית לערכים, ללמידה, לסקרנות, לחדשנות, לכישורי המאה ה-21. משם הדרך לפריון ולצמיחה קצרה.
ההבנה שהחינוך הוא מנוע צמיחה מרכזי מחייבת גיבוש תוכנית לבנייה והתחדשות מידית של מערכת החינוך והאקוסיסטם החינוכי. יש חלון הזדמנויות להאיץ תהליכים ב fast forward במערכת החינוך ולשנות את הפרדיגמות ומבנה המערכת. צריך להבין את גודל השעה, זוהי שעת רצון שלא תחזור. שר/ה שרואים בחינוך משימה לאומית צריכים ויכולים להחזיר את החינוך לקדמת הבמה ולבנות מורשת המבוססת על למידה, טכנולוגיות, פדגוגיה חדשנית ומנגנוני ניהול מתקדמים.
תיק החינוך נתפס במשך שנים כנושאת מטוסים כבדה שלא ניתן להזיזה. לראשונה נוצרה הזדמנות ליצירת פרדיגמה חדשנית. ממש כמו דנ"א של סטארט אפ רזה בו מנסים משהו מהר ופשוט, לומדים ומתקנים תוך כדי תנועה עד שזה מותאם לשטח. יש מי שאימץ את השינוי כבר במהלך משבר הקורונה ושינה תוך שבועות ספורים את כיוון הספינה. בדומה, במהלך משבר הקורונה, במערכת החינוך נזרעו המוני דוגמאות של יוזמות חינוכיות בשטח ממש כמו סטארט אפים רזים. כדרכם של סטארט אפים חלקם הצליחו יותר וחלקם פחות, אך מכולן ניתן היה ללמוד. דמיינו מצב בו ניתן היה כעת להמשיך תהליך מופלא זה ולבנות מערכת חינוך מתחדשת מלאה יוזמות רזות שיתרחבו בהתאם לדירקטיבה של שר/ה שיבינו את העוצמה של מה שקורה בשטח. או אז נושאת המטוסים הכבדה היתה הופכת לספינה אוטונומית, יוזמת וחדשנית, קטליזטור לצמיחה של המדינה כולה. אולי אז תיק החינוך היה נחשק .

Haven’t we learnt anything?
The Corona Crisis has proven more than anything that Education is a major growth engine in the Israeli economy, education is equivalent to economic growth, education is equivalent to national resilience. No less.
Education is everyone’s business, and if we did not understand this before, during the Corona Crisis we all became partners of Education. Nevertheless, the Education Portfolio remains low on the political priority list. Why?
In March 2020, schools were shut down, due to Corona. Until a few days ago, we were all under lock down. We are nearing the end of the current school year as the system is still licking its wounds and confusion is great not to mention the upcoming school year that needs to be prepared.
Field education leaders took responsibility and did their best to lead, by enabling distance learning and preserving what they could from the current school year. Agility at its best. Within a short period of time, the Education System leapt years ahead. The current Department of Education directive is trying to produce a new routine even if it is currently confused and confusing. A huge opportunity for change and growth has been created.
Even if it is clear to everyone that the new normal will be different than what we were accustomed to, alongside the opportunity is a danger. Systems desire, much like Humpty Dumpty to sit back on the wall, preserving what was. Fortunately, the tsunami we have faced, won’t allow for this. What is clear is that for the first time in years, there is a real opportunity to change the Education System. We need a brave Education Minister who will embrace the change that is being made and take it one step further, an opportunity that anyone who can be a Minister should have embraced readily.
Unfortunately, we learned nothing. Instead of party leaders fighting for the Education Portfolio, we find ourselves time and time again, every time a government is formed with a Minister who comes to the office by default, not choice. While the candidates are fighting for other portfolios, no one is publicly fighting for the most important and budget-intensive one. The Education Portfolio has the most impact on our future and our democracy. Instead of taking the historical opportunity created, rolling up their sleeves and leading the system that concerns every citizen of Israel, young and old alike, to a path of growth and hope, they prefer to flaunt with other feathers.
When will we internalize that education and learning are the foundation of all, the common ethos, the improvement of human capital, the growth of future industry and our ability to maintain our status as a start-up nation. Education is the entry ticket to the military and employment, the infrastructure for values, learning, curiosity, innovation, 21st century skills. From education stems the road to productivity and growth.
The education portfolio has for years been seen as a weighted aircraft carrier that cannot be moved. For the first time, an opportunity has arisen to create an innovative paradigm. Similar to a lean startup that tries something fast and simple, building and learning while on the go, until it adjusts to the terrain. Some people have already embraced the change during the Corona crisis and changed the direction of the ship in just a few weeks. Hundreds of examples of educational initiatives in the field have sprouted just like lean startups, some more successful than others, but all of them with lessons to be learned.
Imagine a situation where it is now possible to continue this wonderful process and build a renewable Education System full of lean initiatives expanding in accordance with the directive of a Minister in line with the power of what is happening in the field. Then the heavy aircraft carrier would become an autonomous, enterprising and innovative ship, a catalyst for growth of the entire country. Perhaps then, the Education Portfolio would be considered desirable.
